Under power Rockets beat Liffey Celtics

Coming off a home defeat last weekend, Ulster Rockets made the trip to Dublin to take on Liffey Celtics.

The game was slow to start with neither letting the other take the lead by more than a basket. Rockets pulled away but the girls in green brought it back to a point to close the first 23-24.

The second quarter saw much of the same basketball being played with both teams failing to get any sort of lead. Brittney got injured early in the second which saw her leave the game early. Some good shooting by Liffey saw them pull ahead to end the half 38-36.

Rockets were slow of the mark going in to the 3rd but they pulled the seven point lead back to a draw to close out the third 54-54. Kerry Shields was fouled on the buzzer scoring all 3 free throws to put rockets three ahead. But that wasn’t all as a technical in the interval gave Shields 2 more points in the scorebook leaving the third quarter score 54-59.

The pace of the game picked up in the fourth. Rockets managed to hold a ten point lead with 7:17 left in the game. Rockets didn’t let the hosts come back and extended the lead to 15, with five minutes remaining. Liffey tried to fight back but some good shooting by Kerri Shields once again sealed the win. Final score 64-75.

In a post game interview with Breda, the Dublin-born coach was pleased with the win but missed the height of Finnoula Toner who missed today’s game.
